The Eastern Missouri Psychiatric Society (EMPS) is a district branch of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Its members are therefore also members of the APA. Members of the EMPS are psychiatrists, psychiatry residents or fellows, practicing or training in Eastern Missouri.
The objectives of the Eastern Missouri Psychiatric Society is to promote the welfare of all those with mental illness, to foster the medically based principles of psychiatry, and to support psychiatrists in the practice of their profession. The EMPS:
- Maintains a strong voice in Missouri legislature and state regulatory agencies, advocating for the profession and our patients
- Provides representation of psychiatry at the Missouri State Medical Association
- Participates and provides leadership in coalitions with other mental health professionals, patient and family groups in advocating for access to quality care and ending stigma and discrimination against patients and psychiatric treatments
- Provides public education about psychiatric disorders by working with the news media and disseminating information to consumers, family members, and the general public
- Offers quality CME programs through scientific meetings
- Provides representation to the American Psychiatric Association
The Eastern Missouri Psychiatric Society (EMPS) shall collaborate with the Americal Psychiatric Association (APA) in promoting its objectives:
- To improve the treatment, rehabilitation, and care of the mentally ill, mentally retarded and emotionally disturbed
- To promote research, professional education in psychiatry and allied fields, and the prevention of psychiatric disability
- To advance the standards of all psychiatric services and facilities
- To foster the cooperation of all who are concerned with the medical, psychological, social and legal aspects of mental health and awareness
- To make psychiatric knowledge available to other practitioners of medicine, scientists in other fields of knowledge, and to the public
- To promote the best interest of patients and those making use of mental health services

New Medicare Part A & B Contractor in Missouri May 30, 2008 |
| Effective June 1, 2008, Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) is the new Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. The new contract with WPS replaces the former contract with Pinnacle (Ark BCBS). |
