Welcome to the official Web site of the Eastern Missouri Psychiatric Society (EMPS), a district branch of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
The APA is a a medical specialty society recognized world-wide. Its over 35,000 U.S. and international member physicians work together to ensure humane care and effective treatment for all persons with mental disorder, including mental retardation and substance-related disorders. It is the voice and conscience of modern psychiatry. Its vision is a society that has available, accessible quality psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.
The EMPS district branch is an organization composed primarily of medical specialists who are qualified, or in the process of becoming qualified, as psychiatrists. They practice, train, teach and/or reside in the 25 counties of Eastern Missouri. The western border of the EMPS includes Lincoln, Warren, Gasconade, Washington, Iron, Reynolds, Wayne, Butler and Ripley Counties. The eastern border is the Mississippi River. Members of the EMPS also are members of the APA
The objectives of the EMPS are to promote the welfare of all those with mental illness, to foster the medically based principles of psychiatry, and to support psychiatrists in the practice of their profession.
